The Antonov An 124 Condor

The Antonov An 124 "Condor", the world's second largest transport aircraft, first flew on December 26th, 1982. Built by Antonov (Ukraine) the Condor (Russian name "Ruslan") first appeared to the Western public at the Paris Air Show in 1985. It is simlar in overall size to the Lockheed C5A Galaxy, but smaller than it's big brother the An-225 Mriya. The "Condor" uses a 24 wheel landing gear system, which permits it's operation on unprepared fields. It uses a fly-by-wire control system and incorporates 5,500 kg (12,125 lbs) of composite materials in it's structure for a total weight savings of 2,000 kg (4,400)lbs
