Rear axle
Back Up Next

Here we go on beginning to reconstruct the rolling chassis. After the old 8" rear axle was removed and the old leaf springs were cut out, a set of reverse eye 5 leaf springs were installed. Extra heavy duty rear shackles were installed and Ron Morris leaf spring plates with tie downs. These had to be hand filed a bit to match up with the under-ride traction bars and axle width. On top of all that a one inch lowering plate was added to lower the stance just a little more.

The rear axle is a 9" ford with a 31 spline center section. I just received the 31 spline axles from Summit, and had the bearings pressed on, studs and new seals in the axle ends.

The stance right now is looking good, hopefully it will drop a little more when the car is loaded up with all the parts and stuff ;)
