What The Mustang Started As;
The Mustang we have is a 1967 Fastback 'A' Code car. The
car was originally painted Candyapple Red, and is presently red. The
interior is black and has a factory floor console. The engine is coded
as a 289 4V (premium fuel.) The transmission is the Ford 3-Speed
Toploader with an 8 inch rear end. |
The black interior is in pretty good shape. The car has
the 14" black Torq Thrust wheels. The car was about 300 miles away in Kelowna, very much apart
and getting patch panels made for many of the very rusty parts of the
body

I am building this car together with my son, and we have
discussed several ideas about what kind of car we want and what we want
it to look like.
Like any restoration project, the wish list is very long. We did start
out looking at the 'Eleanor' mustang conversions. The concern we had
with the Eleanor kit, was if it would look dated when the Gone In 60
Seconds movie fades into the past. |
The other concern was using bondo to blend the
flares, side skirts, scoops etc. I have seen in the past vehicles
blended in this way, developing cracks where fiberglass parts meet metal
parts. Simply due to the different flexibility qualities with the two
materials as well as the way the two products expand and contract
differently with temperature changes. So the Eleanor plans were modified |
| What our plans are at this time is somewhat of a hybrid.
Many of the qualities of the Eleanor cars, such as the good suspension,
drive train, and brakes combined with the classic body of the original
1967 Shelby. Body colour, we are at this time thinking of the factory
1967 Dark Blue with white Lemans Stripes.
