I ordered custom upholstery from TMI for the 1988 GT
Mustang seats. The pattern is a Mach 1 pattern, which I deleted the
red stripe and comfort-weave material in favour of regular vinyl.
This way they match closely the pattern of the original factory
Mustang seats.
Instal: The seats use both hog rings and the clips. I couldn't
find my hog ring pliers, so I was fretting about that, Turns out my
auto supplier had them and new rings. The install went well. I am
not installing the fox head-rests they are too tall for my car. Took
me about 6-7 hours, but got the seat covers swapped and installed. I
have a bit more stretching to do on the seat back. It might also be
the way they are stitched or, even the old foam. I'll sort it out.
To do this seat cover swap, you WILL need hog ring pliers and an
upholster stapler. I happened to have an air stapler I bought years
ago.
After the pics were taken, I've got some of the wrinkles out.
What I may end up doing is pulling the seat backs off and adding a
few more hog rings to the top retaining rod. Also I may use a heat
gun if necessary, but the seats are very good now.
