Speedbumps along the way to painting have slowed the project down a
lot. The guy I paid thousands of dollars to properly weld in brand new
sheet metal, badly screwed up the drivers side quarter panel at the
door. (Don't use 'west coast warrenz') Check the pictures on Bondo
exposed to see the 3/4" of bondo on the Bondo exposed page to see
for yourself! So a lot more work getting the quarter and door fitment
was required. I also applied the shrinking disc to the quarter with some
great results.
After all that "fun" I decided to mini tub the rear
wheelhouses. Check out the progress!
I managed to spend a good deal of time aligning the front fascia and
fenders and hood. This involved basically drilling all of the spot welds
from the front of the reproduction front fenders (they did not even fit
the stock headlight buckets - let alone the shelby fiberglass.) The
result is a darn good fit, without doing any sanding or filling at all.
I have a bit of tweaking to do, that's it.
Check out the front fascia and hood alignment work. The fascia was
twisted somewhat, I am guessing an original Shelby trait, as most of the
older cars fit kind of badly. This is not a true replica, so I can make
it fit better, than the original without any repercussions! The nose
section seems to only go bad at the very front. The portion of the
'glass nearer to the radiator is almost exactly symmetrical and
level. the front outer section is no. The flip side is that the hood fit
well, other than gaps, and fender face mating. It was symmetrical and
level.
The more difficult of the fiberglass is the trunk. It fits badly. The
way that it lines up in the trunk opening looked fine. But that's where
it ended check out the first work
on the trunk and extensions.
