Improving The 428 Cooling System
Back Up Next

After the first long weekend run with the 1967 Shelby and it's new engine we uncovered some problems. It was overheating slightly. Later I found out this was due to a frozen (brand new) thermostat, a fan clutch that wasn't working, and a rad cap that did not hold pressure. On top of fixing all that I added dual electric cooling fans for insurance in stop and go traffic.

In addition I also found the magnaflow exhaust system way too loud. I changed out the mufflers for larger ones. This was a big job, bit it is a little quieter. I also completely revamped the sound-deadening in the car to minimize as much sound transfer as possible.

The gearing for the highway was also too much so the 3.50 gears were swapped out for a set of 2.78 gears. All these changes make the GT500 much more street friendly
