Changing the Camshaft in the 428
Back Up

The original Comp Cam sounded terrible in the car. I ended up hauling the engine out again. It was a decent amount of work changing the cam. Most of the time was spent taking out the old cam, checking clearances, checking bearings, valve springs. The only problem identified was (aside from the failing intake gasket) it appears 3 valve seals may not have been doing their job.
As you can see the intake gaskets also had failed, and two valves had some oil accumulation on them.

This cam is a substantially nicer cam than the earlier hydraulic cam, and the noisy hydraulic lifter problem is gone.
